A summarization of the "Malware" incident of April 2023, also known as the reason why most don't talk about Neodev.

WORK IN PROGRESS

Background

One of the main contributing factors to this incident was a then aspiring Mr Pops Alot, which had gain great infamy with the era community by adding fetishized urination, scat, and diaper usage, as well as gunplay and gore in a personal modification of eraTW. He would then release these modifications as "TW Omogatari", which would then become eraNAS

Pedy showed great hatred towards the TH18 cast, repeatedly calling them "shithous" when anyone talks about them, as well as threatening removal of the characters multiple times.

"Reality is Different"

Then thread organizer Sleigh Beggy forked Neodev to request a change which would've changed the virginity text, which was denied by Neodev organizer Pedy. This also sparked fear about the "shithou" scandal where Pedy would remove a majority of features and characters from the game.

On April 15, 2023, Pedy would post the ENG_4.891_15-04-23 release of Neodev, which supposedly added new features and a handful of new characters. msedge_2023-04-15_15-49-55

These however are replacements for the TH18 characters, which were removed from the game and replaced with said PC98s. All mentions of them were removed by Pedy in a PR that was titled the "gatekeeping" branch. msedge_2023-04-15_21-42-49

Another commit (mainly the merge to 4.900) also laid booty traps which would've made eraNAS unplayable due to it deleting all saves and filling the hard drive with garbage data. This is where the drama also escalated into an extremely high level, as it became clear who Pedy really was.

This however was caught before anyone was affected, and Pops was developing more gameplay mechanics, and wasn't able to merge the latest Neodev update anyway.

This is Pedy's reasoning for the removal of the TH18 characters from his branch. He has confirmed multiple times that he wrote this. msedge_2023-04-17_12-05-12

Most players and developers that were using Neodev jumped to AnonTW due to it not being ran by a person that cares about their personal values over the integrity of the game.

Neodev's Fall

What Happened to NAS Anyway?

NAS did not see a significant increase of players, due to how the majority of Neodev's audience was not interested into the modifications of NAS.

NAS was ultimately moved to a new repository with a fork relationship to AnonTW and continues to be linked to that repository, with the now three other repos archived in case a drastic repository change happens again.
